March 28, 2008: Here it is the thirteenth anniversary of Hugh's death. In some ways, it feels as if the time has been short, and in some ways it feels as if a lifetime has gone by. Those who were not affected by his death might wonder why it still matters to me after all these years. I had just turned fourteen when Hugh died, I was a big fan of his and of "In the Heat of the Night", and I had been traumatized the previous year by a dream of his dying. But aside from those reasons, there is the simple fact that Hugh O'Connor was a human being -he was a beloved son and husband, father and friend; he was a man who struggled, who fought, who suffered. The family and friends he left behind will certainly never forget, nor cease to grieve. This website is my flower on his grave, my monument to a man who died too young and too tragically. Even if most of the world has moved on, he mattered, and he will be remembered. If you are visiting this site today to remember Hugh, I invite you to sign the guestbook.
